Technology is on the rise which has changed people’s lives. Today’s technology a positive improvement which has grown over the past years. Today everyone uses technology, from old to new. Both  Ernest Cline and Ray Bradbury present worlds that are run by technology. The technology in ready player one and Fahrenheit 451 is both bad and good. Fahrenheit 451 is all about a fireman called  Guy Montag who does the opposite of what fireman do, starting fires instead of putting them out. The society in Fahrenheit 451 is forbidden from reading books.People spend their time watching big TVs, radios.Montag’s wife Mildred spends her time watching and is addicted to sleeping pills.Montag starts to questions what he does and the reason why books are forbidden. He starts to steals books and reading them.To understand the books well Montag goes to Faber a retired English professor. He was caught reading books so he was arrested but he got away with the help of Faber. On the other hand, Ready player one is a dystopian future world where it is overpopulated and unemployment, but with mass technology. Wade Watts the protagonist plays a virtual reality video game called OASIS which was created by James Halliday. Just before he could die Halliday made a contest. The contest is that whoever finds the Easter egg he hid in the OASIS will inherit his entire fortune and the OASIS.Both books use technology differently, both novels show how technology starts to control the society and in both societies they allow technology to take over their lives in a good and bad way.To start off, the way they use technology in both books is different. In Fahrenheit 451 technology is mostly used for entertainment. And since the government in Fahrenheit 451 likes controlling everything they use technology entertainment as a distraction and a way to control people. The people in the novel focus on material things as a  form of happiness “Without turning on the light he could imagine how his room would look. His wife stretched on the bed……. And in her ears the little Seashells, the thimble radios tamped tight, and an electronic ocean sound of music and talk of music coming in, coming in on the shore of her unsleeping mind”(Bradbury 10).Montag’s wife Mildred is too wrapped up in her technology life that she doesn’t realize how they society is broken. In comparison to the world Ready player one. This novel shows a positive and promising future with the use of technology. The OASIS allows  kids to be engaged and interactive with learning   in fun way especially when it comes to history.”During our World History lesson that morning, Mr. Avenovich loaded up a stand-alone simulation so that our class could witness the discovery of King Tut’s tomb by archaeologists in Egypt in AD 1922,” (Cline, 48). The way history is made fun makes kids want to come to school and have fun and actually enjoy learning instead of sitting in the classroom and learning about things they’ve never seen or things that happened before there were born.People always look at technology as a pathway to their way of life but in these two novel technology is used in both good and bad.In Fahrenheit 451 technology is used in ways the leads to losing imagination and becoming puppets and in Ready player one technology is used as a means of education and expanding knowledge to people. In addition, people are losing focus on the main importance of life and they only focus is technology and what benefits it brings them either bad or good.In ready player one, the author shows corruption through Nolan Sorrento, IOI’s Head of Operations. He is willing to do anything to further his ambitions. Sorrento uses technology(OASIS) as a tool for dictatorship.” Halliday’s contest doesn’t have any rules. That’s one of the many colossal mistakes the old fool made”(Cline, 138)Sorrento is a ruthless man, determined to win the contest at any cost.He does not see that using the OASIS as the means to get to his ambition and destroying other people’s lives is bad. People in Fahrenheit 451 aren’t allowed to read books, but they can use as much technology as they want.Montag’s wife is glued to her tvs which she does not care how much it costs as long as she has her TVs.”It’s really fun. It’ll be even more fun when we can afford to have the fourth wall installed. How long you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and the fourth wall-TV put in? It’s only two thousand dollars” (Bradbury 18).Mildred’s desire for other tv shows her priorities where entertainment is involved and the power of her addiction. She is completely disconnected from the real world.People are taking advantage of technology in a bad way to seem smarter but they do not realize that technology does not mean as much as they believe. Finally, both novels show how technology is overtaking the society.Technology like the OASIS gives its users the freedom to become their dream character. In the real world some of the characters in the story have limitations and restrictions but when they’re in the game they are free.”A wave of emotion washed over me. Shock gave way to a sense of betrayal. How could he she deceive me all these years (Cline 318)”We learn that Aech is a girl and black given her gender and race she bound to have limitations but in the OASIS she creates a character that will make her fit and accepted more in society. In Fahrenheit 451 people are forbidden to have books so firemen use the mechanical hound which is shaped like a dog to sniff out books and kill. The mechanical hound shows us that society is developing technology that is not useful.”Three seconds later the game was done, the rat, cat, or chicken caught half across the areaway, gripped in gentling paws while a four-inch hollow steel needle plunged down from the proboscis of the Hound to inject massive jolts of morphine or procaine”(Bradbury 22 ) It may look like a living thing but it’s just a machine programmed to hunt and kill. The people in Fahrenheit 451 are technically alive, but they do not have life because they not have they only thoughts except for what they tell them to have.To sum up, people have often debated whether technology is good or bad.In Ready player one and Fahrenheit 451 we see how the way they use technology in both books is different, both novels show how technology is overtaking the society and people are losing focus of the main importance of life and they only focus is technology and what benefits it brings them either bad or good can seem like technology has brought both useful and pointless things into our lives and we just need to remember that technology is not to blame for all the bad things, but rather how we use it.
