I believe this past decade has shown us the ups and downs of our government. There are many distinguished political leaders in our society, but today I’d like to talk about one. Joe Biden, born on November 20, 1942, in Pennsylvania, was our 47th vice president. To many people, including me, Joe Biden has shown how important of a governmental figure he is. He has shown leadership through persistence, commitment, friendship and many other notable qualities. Through his many years of involvement with politics, Joe hasn’t given us a valid reason to distrust him.Growing up in Scranton, Pennsylvania Biden was on his way to becoming an attorney. Biden attended the University of Delaware, he studied history and political science and played football. During spring break, junior year of college he met Neilia Hunter in the Bahamas. Biden fell in love with her quickly and had been accepted to Syracuse University Law School, the same school Hunter had already been attending. After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1965, Hunter and Biden promptly married in 1966. Biden had graduated law school in 1968. He moved to Wilmington to practice at a law firm, during this time he had become an active Democratic member. His first child Joseph Biden the third, also known as Beau, was born on February 3, 1969. A year later Hunter Biden had been born and a year after that his daughter Naomi Biden had been born. A year after Naomi’s birth, Biden had been encouraged to run for Senate. Few people thought Biden had a chance against his opponent, J. Caleb Boggs. Despite this, he worked hard on his campaign. He had one the position and became the nation’s fifth-youngest senator at 29 years old.A week before Christmas in 1972, Biden’s wife and children had been in a terrible car accident while getting a Christmas tree. This accident killed his wife and young daughter while injuring his two sons badly. During this time Biden had been under extreme stress and even considered suicide. “I began to understand how despair led people to just cash in; how suicide wasn’t just an option but a rational option … I felt God had played a horrible trick on me, and I was angry.” Biden later recalled.Even after this tragedy he still became Senate of Delaware with encouragement from his family. Skipping the traditional swearing-in ceremony for new senators in Washington DC, Biden had been sworn in at his sons’ hospital room. Spending as much as time as he could with his sons he has continued to live in Delaware while commuting to Washington every day by train. He continued this commute every day as he worked as a senator.Despite the heartbreak, Biden still has persevered through and became Senate. This isn’t the only area of his life he showed perseverance in but it’s one of the more distinguished areas. Many people would have forgotten their dream if an accident like this had turned up, but Biden was hard working. By reading about Biden’s life and achievements I can say now and believe that it doesn’t matter how hard you fall, it matters how fast you get up. Biden had been through many heartbreaks but it didn’t stop him from becoming doing what he wanted. I’m happy to say that I admire his perseverance.During his Senate years, Biden had become a very notable figure. He earned respect as one of the leading foreign policy experts. Because of this respect, he had been elected chairman of the committee on foreign relations for several years. Additionally, Biden felt strongly about stricter crime laws, he had sponsored the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act to increase the number of police officers and elongate sentences. In addition to the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, he also supported the Violence Against Women Act. As a result of the support, he got the address of abused women confidential and protection orders recognized across the jurisdiction. This act was signed into law by the president, Bill Clinton.Today the Violent Crime Control is called for a reform and is said to have caused today’s mass imprisonment. Biden said he wasn’t ashamed at all to have drafted the bill. He was happy with the effects of the bill, which were “reducing sentences” and sending out 100,000 more cops. He had committed to the bill, meaning he had really believed in the bill even if people had said that it wasn’t a good billIn 1987 Biden had run for U.S. presidency, during his campaign he had been suffering from a painful headache. promptly dropped out of the running. In 1988 doctors had confirmed that he had two life-threatening aneurysms. After a 7-month recovery process, he had returned to his position in the Senate. In 2007 Biden had another unsuccessful run for U.S. presidency. After dropping out, Barack Obama had chosen him to be his running mate. Obama and Biden had won the election against John McCain and Sarah Palin in 2008. The pair had also been reelected in 2012. Sometime after, Biden had become an influential leader in the debate about gun control. He had announced many solutions regarding the reduction of gun violence to President Obama.President Obama and Biden had an unusually close relationship. Because of the pair’s friendship, Biden’s role as vice president had been effective. In January 2017, Barack Obama had presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Biden as a surprise. Obama had described him as a hard worker and brother. Their friendship is a great example of how friendship can affect a team.Biden had shown leadership through persistence, commitment, and friendship throughout his whole life. Being persistent is a really good quality, no matter how many times you fall down you get up. I want to be resilient, I would be able to go through anything that stopped me from becoming what I want to be. Commitment shows how devoted you are to a project, I believe I have that, I am committed to my team and I won’t leave them. Friendship is really what ties a team together, if I were not friendly with my teammates we wouldn’t be able to work on our project effectively. After researching about Joe Biden I wholeheartedly believe that you must get up, no matter what the circumstance.
