   Figurative Language? “England mourns for her dead across the sea.” – Metaphor and Personification – England represents the whole nation meaning the people mourn the fallen? “And the stars are known to the Night” – Personification – to know is a human quality and neither the stars nor the night are human but the author gives them the ability to be known through personification by saying the stars are the soldiers.? “But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight”- Simile – Desire and hopes they are things we have like feelings but they aren’t visible like a hidden spring isn’t visible.        Imagery? As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust” – We are able to imagine stars shining bright compared to the dull color of dust.? “Straight of Limb, True of eye, steady and aglow” – Descriptive imagery that allows us to imagine how straight and willing these men were when they went to war.     Rhyme Scheme and Sound? The poem has a rhyme scheme of ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ STUT. How does the poem sound?? “They fell with their faces to the foe” – Alliteration -The F’s are harsh and abrupt, adds to how the soldiers fell.? ” Bright when we are dust” – Consonance – Bright and Dust add contrast and add emphasizes that the soldiers shine bright like stars which makes them important.       Tone?
